Spring is in the air, and with Valentine’s Day around the corner, love seems to be in the air too…just look at those cute rooks lined up on the wire. I wonder have they worked out how far apart they need to be for a bit of privacy, as they always seem to take the same distance from th next couple…but not when they’re alone. Intriguing!

Today’s themes:
Low winter light, wet-on-wet, spontaneous, rapid captures and expressive linework.
You will need to bring either black or brown ink (waterproof if you can), in a fude pen if you can, and some watercolour: not many colours needed today, which is just as well when you are jammed up against a hedge on a freezing day and have limited time before you freeze (but it’s worth it). I used Payne’s grey, Aquarius green and Green apatite genuine (Daniel Smith), and burnet umber.
If you have dark green ink, you’ll find it very useful for the ivy. I don’t know exactly how I would have got the dark scribbly effect without it.
You can book this class, and attend live if you can and watch the recording if you can’t. You’ll have it for two months at least and probably longer.
A single class costs €6 but if you love sketching and would like to make a habit of it, I offer a monthly subscription for €19.99, which is terrific value, as it brings you an unbelievable 12 classes per month, always live and always recorded (on different days of the week and at different times to try to suit everyone’s time zone). It also gives you 20% off recorded classes (there are over 90 in the archive) – and if you choose the Deluxe membership (€29.99 / month) you’ll get them all for free.
Book via the home page – and you’ll get the link and the reference image in advance of class.
See you then!
