What is a giclée print?

The giclée (french for ‘spray’) printing method was developed in the 1990’s and represented a breakthrough in print technology. They are produced using high-density inks done on special large-format printers and result in a print of archival quality that is lightfast for decades, provided a reasonably dry location is chosen for them and avoiding direct sunlight. The giclée print process produces deep saturated colours and has a beautiful painterly quality that retains minute and subtle tints, blends and detail. They have quickly become the industry standard in fine art reproduction. They are simply the closest replication of an original artwork that is currently possible.

What do you get when you buy a print from this store?

The watercolour prints are all limited edition prints. Only a certain number (typically 10 – 20) prints will ever be made. Each is individually signed and numbered by the artist. Each print has a serialised numbered hologram imprinted onto both sides of the paper and each number is registered on a web site. A Certificate of Authenticity is issued with the print, from which the number can then be checked on the registration web site. In this way, the provenance of each print can be authenticated in perpetuity, in the case of purchase by a third party, and you are assured that it is a genuine limited edition Róisín Curé print. The print’s value will then be safeguarded from fraud.

The prints are carefully designed to match the originals in every way. The prints are usually the same size as the original, but we do occasionally offer different sizes. Therefore it is important that you check the size of each print as written below each image. They range in size from A2 all the way down to A5.

The paper used for the print is a high quality acid free aquarelle rag watercolour paper. The prints are of archival quality.

The prints are packaged sturdily and then mailed with the Certificate of Authenticity to the address that you supply when you checkout from the web store.

We will post the parcel within 5 working days. We cannot be responsible though for delays in the postal system, which in extremis might result in a parcel taking 4 weeks to arrive to remoter destinations.

How do I frame a fine art print?

The prints sold by roisincure.com are sold unframed, but in a bevelled card single or double mount, so that they can be easily posted around the world. There are many framers and styles of frame, which can depend on the taste of the consumer. These notes are to help you frame your print.

Fine art prints are framed in exactly the same way as an original watercolour painting – remember, a giclée print and an original are hard to tell apart. Many people are very familiar with a framemaker’s studio, but for those of you who are not, here are a few tips.

It should not be hard to find a framer you can trust. You might see a painting in a friend’s house whose frame you like – ask them where they had it done. Failing that, the high street will usually have a framing gallery on it. Have a look in their window and see if you like how their pictures look.

The type of frame depends on your décor. If it’s a gift for yourself, it’s easy to decide the style. If it is for someone whose taste you do not know, then it is usually safe to choose a neutral timber frame, either in an unstained timber or a “washed” timber frame, which is stained a subtle white and allows the colour of the wood to show through.
