The third in the series of “botanical” still lives inspired by the beauty of autumn in Ireland.
Today I am sketching these beautiful, fresh pine cones in a jar of water on a wood grained surface.
I will demonstrate how to get that subtle shadow of water as it falls on the table and how the glass affects the light filtering through the water, causing the stems to be refracted. It’s all about careful observation – the foundation for all successful sketching, no matter your style.
You will need a green sketching implement: a dip pen, a fountain pen, a marker, a gel pen. You’ll need green ink. I used Emma Sketch Ink by Rohrer and Klingner and highly recommend it.
You’ll find your fountain pen with brown ink will come in very useful too. I used De Atramentis Document Brown ink.
Other than that – bring your best watercolours and brushes!
See you there!
