About Róisín Curé

Roisin_picture

I’m Róisín Curé and I draw and paint – a lot. I’ve developed this website as a means to share my part of the West of Ireland with you directly.

Since I started sketching my world, my life has become infinitely richer. For the last few years I’ve lived my life through the prism of art, and in that time I have filled fifteen or twenty sketchbooks with drawings and paintings of everything from daily life to family occasions to trips to exciting places. Not only do I have a treasure trove of memories to enjoy, but I’ve met countless kind and friendly people who’ve stopped to chat, and have spent countless hours in peace and contentment with my pens, brushes and my little box of watercolours.

Stuff happens when I’m out sketching. It can be something that words can’t really describe, like the serenity I feel surrounded by the sound of bees and birds on a warm May evening, or it can be something more interesting, like the time I sketched the guys who have collected some of the best oysters in the world down the road from me for hundreds of years, and now run an international business. I try to bring my world to life in my sketches and the stories that go with them.

I also aim to help people who want to join in this wonderful pastime, who are learning to paint and draw, so every now and then – about once a month – I devise tutorials which you can download. Some are free, wand others cost a couple of euros – nothing too strenuous. I’ll be available to help via the comments section under each article. I’ve been promising for years to put online tutorials up, so this is where you can find out how I teach. I’ve been teaching adults and children here in Ireland for years and I know what gets results so I hope the tutorials will help you too.

I’m hoping to introduce you to some of my favourite artists, both living and dead. I’ve had the privilege of meeting many fine sketchers over the years and I’ll be very excited to showcase their work. If you would like to have a chat to see whether you’d like to be featured in an article, please get in touch.

There’ll be announcements of courses as they come up, both local and online, and every now and then I’ll share some kind of craft project that I do – I’m a dab hand with a sewing machine (and a needle and thread, for that matter), and I love teaching kids how to get going with their own machines too. It’s amazing how quickly they learn, and they’re so creative!

I’ll be posting book reviews too. You can be sure that my reviews are unbiased: it just so happens that I am usually inspired by excellent books and therefore have written some glowing reviews. If I’ve enjoyed a book, I’ll try to tempt you with a synopsis that will lead you in and leave you wanting more.

I will also share information on the products I use, and where you can get your hands on them. Everything I promote I’ve used and enjoyed myself, or it wouldn’t be here. The trust of my readers is everything to me: I’ve had the pleasure of getting to know a lot of my online followers, and you never know, one day you might make it to Galway and we can meet up for some sketching too.

So feel free to have a good look around and let me know if you have any questions. I’ll do my best to answer as soon as I can. Enjoy!
