The Jummah Masjid mosque was one of the last paintings I made in Mauritius. I was very nervous to go, as I worried that someone might object to a woman painting in the mosque. But the staff could not have been more welcoming, and made me gifts of food and drink as I worked. The staff were delighted with the painting I made and their public relations officer put it up on Facebook. The men who came to pray were all very jolly and kind. Painting in the mosque was a formal affair: I had to seek permission from the President, and send him some examples of my work, before I was given permission. I thought the white plasterwork was exquisite, as was the enormous tree in the centre of the marble floor.
