Limited edition print (200). Watercolour area 505 x 404 mm. This painting was made in 2012 on the Indian ocean island of Mauritius.

This Catholic church at Cap Malheureux is in one of the most beautiful settings I have ever seen. There are palm trees everywhere, a turquoise lagoon in the background and the island of Coin de Mire on the horizon. The church itself has no glass in the windows, as the climate is just too hot to warrant them.
Coin de Mire played a significant part in the taking of Mauritius by the English in 1810.
On Sundays the church is overflowing with tourists and locals, who sit outside on the steps and the grass, and Mass is an altogether lively experience.
While I painted, many newlyweds had their photos taken there, regardless of whether they had been married in that church or not.
