Limited edition print (100). Watercolour area 207 x 295 mm. This painting was made in 2013.

These bluebells are one of the earliest flowers of summer and I thought they would make a lovely subject. I put them in a little narrow jar as all my other jugs had flowers in them already. The day I picked them it was pouring with rain and their leaves were all muddy when I got them home, but I cleaned off the leaves and away I went. It’s nice to walk past the same clump now and see that although the flowers may be no more, their comrades are preserved forever on paper. The cloth is an antique cutwork lace which came from my great-grandmother (also a watercolourist) when she left Madeira to live in England.
